About

Shakira James is the Head of School and Learning Center Director for Score Academy’s Broward County schools in Coral Springs and Weston. She brings over a decade of dedication to education, teaching grades 3–12 and developing rigorous, research-based, individualized curricula in New York and across South Florida.

Shakira James is the Head of School and Learning Center Director for Score Academy’s Broward County schools in Coral Springs and Weston. She brings over adecade of dedication to education, teaching grades 3–12 and developing rigorous, research-based, individualized curricula in New York and across South Florida. Early in her career, Shakira served as Head of the Science Departmentat a Brooklyn charter school, where she created the school’s first comprehensive K–5 STEM program and guided her team to a 100% passing rate on New York State science assessments, transforming the school into an “A”-rated science program in the community.

Shakira holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology with a minor in French from the University at Albany and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Kaplan University, where she graduated summa cum laude.

Her educational philosophy is rooted in inclusivity, academic rigor, and hands-on, dynamic learning. As an educator, wife, and mother of two, she bringsa unique perspective on the importance of personalized support and strong collaboration with families. She encourages students to think like scientists — ask questions, explore their curiosity, and challenge themselves.

Outside of school, Shakira enjoys traveling throughout the Caribbean and spending time by the beach. At Score Academy, she is committed to fostering a warm, supportive, and academically challenging environment where every student can thrive both personally and intellectually.
