Standards of Ethical Conduct

Score Academy (SA) is committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct in all educational and business operations. Our reputation for integrity and excellence depends upon strict adherence to applicable laws, professional standards, and the principles outlined below.

These Standards are adapted from the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida, the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida, and the Code of Ethics for Educators of the Association of American Educators.

Commitment to Ethical and Lawful Conduct

  • SA operates upon principles of fairness, integrity, and ethical conduct.
  • All employees are expected to comply with the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Employees must avoid illegal, dishonest, or unethical conduct in all professional activities.
  • Employees may not represent themselves as speaking on behalf of SA unless specifically authorized.

The continued success of SA depends upon the trust of our students, parents, colleagues, and community. Every employee has a duty to act in a manner that preserves that trust.

Commitment to Students

Our primary concern is the student and the development of each student’s potential. SA values:

  • The worth and dignity of every individual
  • The pursuit of truth
  • Devotion to excellence
  • Equal opportunity for all
  • Freedom to learn and to teach

Instructional personnel shall:

  • Make reasonable efforts to protect students from conditions harmful to learning, health, or safety.
  • Avoid unreasonable restraint of independent thought or access to diverse viewpoints.
  • Avoid intentional suppression or distortion of academic subject matter.
  • Avoid exposing students to unnecessary embarrassment or disparagement.
  • Respect and protect students’ legal rights.
  • Refrain from harassment or discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, political beliefs, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, or social and family background.
  • Avoid exploiting relationships with students for personal gain.
  • Maintain confidentiality of personally identifiable student information unless disclosure is legally required or serves a legitimate professional purpose.

Ethical Conduct Toward Colleagues and the Community

SA staff shall:

  • Maintain honesty in all professional dealings.
  • Refrain from discriminatory or harassing conduct toward colleagues.
  • Avoid malicious or knowingly false statements.
  • Respect colleagues’ civil and political rights.
  • Uphold professional integrity in all communications and interactions.

Employees must recognize that their public conduct and expression may impact SA’s reputation and working relationships. Conduct that materially damages SA’s professional environment or public perception may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

Mandatory Training Requirement

All instructional personnel, educational support staff, and administrators are required, as a condition of employment, to complete training on these Standards of Ethical Conduct.

Mandatory Reporting of Misconduct

All employees, educational support employees, and administrators have an obligation to report misconduct by instructional personnel and school administrators, which affects the health, safety, or welfare of a student. Examples of misconduct include obscene language, drug and alcohol use, disparaging comments, prejudice or bigotry, sexual innuendo, cheating or testing violations, physical aggression, and accepting or offering favors.

Legally sufficient allegations involving Florida-certified educators will be reported to the Office of Professional Practices Services in accordance with Florida law.

Failure to report required misconduct may result in disciplinary action.

Reporting Child Abuse, Abandonment, or Neglect

All SA employees and agents have an affirmative legal duty to report actual or suspected child abuse, abandonment, or neglect.

Patterns of physical or behavioral indicators may signal abuse and must be reported. Good-faith reporters are protected from civil or criminal liability under Florida Statutes §39.203.

Liability Protections

Individuals reporting in good faith are protected under:

  • Florida Statutes §39.203
  • Florida Statutes §768.095

Employers disclosing employment information in good faith to prospective employers are likewise protected from civil liability unless knowingly false information is disclosed.
